come and praise hymn book – primary school flashback

come and praise hymn bookThisw book brings back so many primary school memories. Ours were plastic covered and if you scratched hard enough you form a plastic blister that you could stick your finger in.

I also remember the weird songs about “jet planes meeing in the air to be refueled” all sung along to an old upright piano.

I always wondered about the situation the picture was taken in, it looks like someone pulled out a camera in a playground and some parka wearing kids bundled him.

also the kid in the centre back really scared me!

  1. I haven’t seen this cover for over 20 years, and I agree, freaky picture. Just got myself the only other book we had at school, called Morning Has Broken, a vivid orange book with a yellow circle (the Sun me thinks). It too had a plastic cover but alot more robust than most.
    Gary’s shed you star!

  2. The picture was enough to give me nostalgia but EVERYTHING you said about the plastic and center kid also…you sir are a legend!

  3. Wow, thank you so much for posting this! I can remember the feel of the covers and the jet planes vividly! A lovely nostalgic moment 🙂

  4. What a nostalgia trip! We had the same book covered with plastic film and it was our assembly ‘bible’ every day. So I mustn’t forget, all things bright and beautiful were the 2 biggies that were drilled in to us in the mid 80s at harewood primary school by Mrs Tull lol

  5. such great and funny memories, I remember one particular song, or rather its words, going something like this….
“and you nourish it with rain” being the kids we were we’d empathise the ‘nourish’ and ‘it’ more loudly than the rest of the words, had us in bits, what fun we had.
